Vision Always Wins
It always wins.
But the opposite of vision always loses. It’s condescending, slandering, telling someone how great you are, or how stupid they are. That perspective doesn’t work, and it’s not a vision.
Vision + Our Brains
To fully understand the vision, we need to understand ourselves, literally. Our brains are divided into three parts. The neocortex is the brain’s analytical computer, which processes data. The limbic system is where all emotions reside. The brain stem and other brain structures are responsible for your survival.
When we talk about vision, it wins because it engages the limbic side of the brain, which engages emotions. And emotions are seven times more powerful than rational thought.
Our limbic brain is powerful, powerful enough to drive behavior that sometimes contradicts our rational and analytical understanding of a situation. We often “trust our gut” even if the decision flies in the face of all the facts and figures.
The limbic part of the brain is responsible for all our behavior and decision-making. It’s also responsible for all our feelings, like trust and loyalty.
But, the limbic system also has no capacity for language. This is where “gut feelings” come from. It’s not our stomach. It’s a feeling we get about a decision we have to make that we struggle to explain.
The neocortex is the part of the brain responsible for rational and analytical thought. It helps us understand the facts and figures, features, and benefits. So if you’re having conversations in the neocortex, you’re addressing the questions Who? What? When? Where?
When you don’t address how and why, you aren’t engaging the limbic system, and you lose the opportunity to win with vision.
This happens every day. And if you aren’t using vision to win, you’re losing.
Visionary Mindset
Operating without vision – slandering and condescending – takes you away from being visionary. It also puts you into a fixed mindset and boxes you in. It doesn’t give you a mindset of opportunity and growth.
When you’re stuck in a fixed mindset, it takes some of your mindshare away. You’re stuck, instead of being focused on what you can be, what you aspire to be, and where you’re going.
The fun part of the vision is finding where you’re going and who’s joining you.
Let’s explore and change the world together! This change, vision, of where you’re going brings people into the story. Now we feel engaged, empowered, appreciated, loved.
Vision wins, but you have to work vision.
